Opening of Parliament is coming up soon and we’ll have President Jacob Zuma’s State of the Nation address to watch and analyse. Which reminds me Thabo Mbeki’s great “I am an African” speech – I think it was written by the former Cape Times editor, Tony Heard. Zuma has never produiced a seminal speech and I’d say the time is now so best he finds himself a PROPER speech writer and give us a charismatic performance. For food for thought, read this excellent analysis piece by Carol Paton at the Financial Mail on what Zuma’s presidency has achieved thus far and the challenges that lie ahead.
