Not sure that the assumptions in this graphic below hold water but it’s still a nice graphic so I have decided to post it anyway. What do you think? Is social media killing magazines? Are you getting more from Twitter and Facebook than a magazine can provide you with?

Running a small site such as http://www.aviationcentral.co.za for a highly specialised industry, I can see the value the site can deliver in terms of content and speed of delivery.
However, most people in the industry have their preferred channels and are not embracing social media readily…
Its a challenge I am up for tho
P.S. Thanks for a great site!

Cool graphic. Personally, I use facebook and twitter to keep up with mates and out of interest, but I love flipping open a crisp magazine to catch up with “soft” and celeb news. They are completely different activities to me.
Just this year I’ve subscribed to two mags, and I may as well subscribe to another as I tend to buy every issue. Price is an issue for me though – the mags I buy tend to be the cheaper variety. I am completely put off buying a mag for approx R30, and so never do.
BTW, are you going to post anything about the recent Naspers bombshell?

Ja … but how many magazines close every year anyway. Femina’s supposedly on the ropes but is that because of social media or because the women’s market is so damned crowded anyway. And in a recession, who has R28.95 to spend on a local magazine (never mind a foreign one – the Economist is R50 now and it’s not the most expensive one either)
